Local Boys

Adam and Jeremy are proud to make Elsmere BBQ and Wood Grill an active part of the thriving South Portland community. They love hosting local events and nonprofit fundraisers on a regular basis. They are always interested in hearing about we can work together to better our community!

Adam Powers‘ cooking style is heavily influenced by the 10 years he spent in his youth in Southeast Asia. Eating his way through Bangkok’s amazing street food culture provided the foundation for Adam’s fascination with America’s own version of folk cuisine- BBQ. Adam has studied and crafted BBQ for over 20 years, even fabricating his own Texas-style BBQ cooker out of a 1950’s metal refrigerator. He studied at the Culinary School of Southern Maine Community College in South Portland, Maine and has been working in the food industry since he was 16.

You may also know Adam as a founding member of Twisted Roots, one of Maine’s most successful original bands. Twisted Roots has released several national recordings and toured extensively up and down the East Coast. They opened for big acts like Ozzy Osbourne and played at such legendary venues as CBGB’s and Great Woods.

Jeremy Rush is Adam’s longtime friend and culinary collaborator. Together they have over 40 years combined experience in the business. Jeremy’s BBQ interest began with fond childhood memories of roadside barbecue restaurants encountered during annual family-visits to Kansas. BBQ is a family tradition for Jeremy whose father used to pull out the smoker for holidays and family gatherings. His love of BBQ has stayed with him over the years and he is proud to share this passion for delicious BBQ with you.

Jeremy grew up in Freeport, Maine and attended North Yarmouth Academy where he was the captain of the varsity Hockey Team.
